Câu chủ đề – Topic sentence là gì?
Trong một đoạn văn được viết theo giải pháp lập luận diễn dịch, vai trò của câu chủ đề – topic sentence là cung ứng cho người đọc thông tin tổng quan của cả đoạn văn. Một câu chủ đề hoàn thành xong cần truyền tải được 2 thông điệp :

Chủ đề của bài viết
- Ý chủ yếu của đoạn văn .
tin tức trong câu chủ đề cần ( topic sentence ) có tính bao quát, tránh những cụ thể đơn cử. Điều này sẽ cung ứng cho người đọc cái nhìn chung nhất về nội dung đoạn văn cũng như mối quan hệ giữa ý chủ yếu của đoạn văn với quan điểm của người viết được bộc lộ ở câu vấn đề ( The thesis statement ) ở đoạn mở bài .
Ví dụ :Đề bài : Cycling is becoming less and less popular in many places around the world. What are the reasons for this trend ? ( Việc đi xe đạp điện ngày càng trở nên ít thông dụng ở nhiều nơi trên quốc tế. Những nguyên do cho xu thế này là gì ? )Câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) cho đoạn thân bài cần khái quát cho người đọc biết rằng đoạn văn này sẽ nêu những nguyên do gây ra việc kém thông dụng của cycling .
Topic sentence: There are two main reasons (ý chủ đạo của đoạn) for cycling becoming less popular (chủ đề chính).
Để viết một câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) hiệu suất cao, người viết cần xác lập :
- Đối tượng / chủ đề chính trong bài viết là gì ?
- Ý tưởng trọng tâm của đoạn văn là gì ?
Lưu ý : Ý tưởng trọng tâm phải vấn đáp được câu hỏi nêu ra trong đề bài và phải tương thích với quan điểm của người viết ở mở bài .
Một số lỗi sai cần lưu ý khi viết topic sentence
Trong quy trình luyện thi IELTS Writing, nhiều người viết hoàn toàn có thể mắc 3 lỗi sai sau :
- Câu chủ đề không nhắc lại chủ đề trọng tâm của bài viết .
- Câu chủ đề không đủ khái quát nội dung của đoạn văn .
- Câu chủ đề không trực tiếp tăng trưởng quan điểm người viết ở câu vấn đề .
Các ví dụ sau đây sẽ nghiên cứu và phân tích đơn cử những lỗi thường gặp trong câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) của đoạn văn :Ví dụ 1 :Chủ đề : Cycling is becoming less and less popular in many places around the world. What are the reasons for this trend ? Can you suggest some ways to make cycling more popular ?Câu mở đoạn cho phần nguyên do : “ There are two main reasons for this. ”Vấn đề : Topic sentence – Câu chủ đề không chứa nội dung chính của bài viết ( Cycling is becoming less popular ) và gây khó hiểu cho người đọc vì người đọc không hiểu “ this ” ở đây chỉ điều gì .Thay cho lối viết mơ hồ trên, người viết nên viết khá đầy đủ và nhắc lại chủ đề của bài viết “ Việc đạp xe trở nên kém thông dụng hơn ” .Sửa : There are two main reasons ( controlling idea ) for cycling becoming less popular ( topic ) .
Ví dụ 2 :Chủ đề : Art classes should be a compulsory part of high school education. Do you agree or disagree ?Câu vấn đề ở mở bài : Although art classes can benefit the development of high school students, I disagree that such classes should be made compulsory. ( Mặc dù những lớp học về nghệ thuật và thẩm mỹ mang lại quyền lợi cho sự tăng trưởng của học viên, tôi không đồng ý chấp thuận rằng những lớp học như vậy nên được triển khai bắt buộc. )Đoạn thân bài thứ nhất về những quyền lợi của “ Art classes ” :High school students nowadays are experiencing a much higher amount of stress from school than ever before. They have to study too many subjects that require different skill sets, tremendous effort and discipline. However, they can both have fun and learn something at the same time during art classes. Additionally, these classes help students improve their creativity through many activities of creating art works .Vấn đề : Câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) không có tính bao quát đại ý của cả đoạn và thưc tế chỉ nêu một thực trạng hiện tại của học viên trung học .Người viết hoàn toàn có thể sửa lại câu mở đoạn trên như sau :Art classes can relieve students ’ stress from study and increase their creativity .Với câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) trên, chủ đề của bài luận ( art classes ) đã được nhắc đến và ý chính của đoạn văn đã được truyền tải rõ ràng bằng 2 cụm từ diễn đạt 2 quyền lợi mà art classes mang lại đó là ‘ relieve stress and increase creativity ’ .Đoạn văn hoàn hảo sau khi đã có câu mở đoạn tương thích :Art classes ( topic ) can relieve students ’ stress from study and increase their creativity ( controlling idea ). In fact, high school students nowadays are experiencing a much higher amount of stress from school than ever before because they have to study too many subjects that require different skill sets, tremendous effort and discipline. However, they can both have a chance to ease their mind and learn something at the same time during art classes. Additionally, these classes help students improve their creativity through many activities of creating art works .Ví dụ 3 :Đề bài : Education for young people is important in many countries. However, some people think that the government should spend more money on education in adult population who cannot read and write. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?Luận điểm ở mở bài : Although there are some drawbacks if the government spend more money on adult education, I agree that it is a necessary thing to do. On the other hand, I believe that investing in the youth education is more important than adult illiteracy. This is because the number of white-collar jobs is on the increase while blue-collar jobs are gradually superseded by automatic devices. This means a substantial number of untrained people are being made redundant, which is equivalent to a higher rate of unemployment.

Vấn đề : Câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) chưa khớp với vấn đề chính của bài cũng như đại ý của toàn đoạn văn vì chủ đề chính là việc góp vốn đầu tư cho ‘ adult education ’, không có so sánh với ‘ youth education ’Sửa lại câu chủ đề ( topic sentence ) :On the other hand, I believe that investing in adult illiteracy ( topic ) is important due to several benefits ( controlling idea ) .

What are the causes ? 1. Is this a positive or a negative development ?Thân bài 1 : On the one hand, [ The topic ] can be disadvantageous / advantageous in some certain aspect .Thân bài 2 : On the other hand, [ The topic ] is a positive / negative development for various reasons .2. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages ?Thân bài 1 : On the one hand, [ The topic ] may bring about a number of beneficial / detrimental effects .Thân bài 2 : On the other hand, I claim that the disadvantages / advantages of [ the topic ] are greater due to many reasons .Ví dụ :Some universities now offer their courses on the Internet as an alternative to classes delivered in campus. Is this a positive or negative development ?Luận điểm ở mở bài : In my opinion, this trend could have both positive and negative consequences in equal measure .Thân bài 1 :On the one hand, enrolling in trực tuyến courses instead of offline ones can be disadvantageous in some certain aspect .Thân bài 2 :On the other hand, trực tuyến university courses are a positive development for various reasons .

On the one hand, there are some reasons why people hold a belief that [ the 1 st opinion ]On the other hand, I firmly believe that + [ the 2 nd opinion ] ( quan điểm ở thân bài 2 là quan điểm mà người viết ưng ý. )Ví dụ :Some people think the government should spend money on roads and motorways, while others believe that improving public transport systems is more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion .Đối với đề này, người viết cần bàn luận tại sao một số ít người nghĩ government nên dành tiền góp vốn đầu tư road systems và tại sao một số ít người khác tin rằng góp vốn đầu tư cho public transport quan trọng hơn .Luận điểm ở mở bài : Both sides of this argument will be discussed in the essay below, and my opinion is drawn in the end .Thân bài 1 :On the one hand, there are some reasons why people think money from governments should be invested in expanding and improving roads .Thân bài 2 :
On the other hand, it is understandable why many people think that investing in public transport is more important.
